Benefits of training with an Ankle Support
Please note if your ankle has been sprained or potentially fractured please see your doctor, sports related injuries fall under the ACC scheme in NZ so your Doctor's visit, X-rays and any Physio will be heavily subsidised or free. Your Physio would also show you how to correctly tape (strap) your ankle, taping incorrectly can cause the injury to get worse.
If you're an athlete or someone who frequently engages in physical activity, you may want to consider wearing an ankle support. Ankle supports are designed to provide extra stability to your ankle joint to prevent lateral twisting, reducing the risk of sprains, strains, and other injuries.
Ankle injuries are one of the most common injuries in sports and physical activity. A sprained or strained ankle can sideline you for weeks or even months, impacting your ability to perform and enjoy your favourite activities. An ankle support can help prevent these injuries from occurring in the first place by providing additional support and protection to your ankle joint. The compression from the support also makes it easier for muscles to build themselves up as they are less stressed. As a result, this supports facilitates the achievement of smoother rehabilitation.
An ankle support can also be helpful if you have a history of ankle injuries or chronic ankle instability. These issues can make it more difficult to maintain proper form and balance during physical activity, increasing your risk of injury. An ankle support can help to compensate for any weaknesses or imbalances, allowing you to move with more confidence and reducing the risk of injury.
In general when wearing a support you'll want your ankle to feel "locked in." The brace should not restrict blood flow in any way, or cause any pain due to tightness.
Overall, wearing an ankle support during physical activity can be an effective way to protect your ankle joint and reduce the risk of injury. Whether you're a competitive athlete or someone who simply enjoys staying active, an ankle support can help keep you on your feet and performing at your best.
